Andy Burnham has intimated that the board could set up a two-stop connection for Liverpool and Manchester to Manchester Airport, massively improving transport links to the North West’s most major long-haul airport.
He commented: “We would want something meaningful happening on the ground in time for the 200th anniversary in five years’ time. We’ve convened major stakeholders along the line, who all have an interest in a high ambition in the infrastructure.
“This is the biggest opportunity the North West of England will get in this century to put in place infrastructure that is on a par with London and the South East.”
According to the Liverpool Echo, Steve Rotheram has also put forward bold proposals for the rail overhaul, including the possibility of Merseyrail services going as far as Greater Manchester. He also said that a new station would allow for more convenient links across the city’s major transit points, although the proposed location of this new Liverpool train station has not been confirmed yet.
So, with all these ongoing and planned redevelopment efforts, is this a good time to invest in Liverpool?
